This Privacy Policy explains how Masters Finance Academy (“we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, stores and protects personal information when you visit wolfyn.com, create a Wolfyn account, or use any of the study tools, practice questions, mock exams, AI tutor, AI marking and related features we make available (together, the “Service”).
We take your privacy seriously. We collect only the information we need to run the Service, help you prepare for your exams and keep the Service secure. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Please read this policy carefully together with our Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree with how we handle personal information, please do not use the Service. If you have any questions, contact us at support@wolfyn.com.
Wolfyn is an independent study tool for students preparing for the professional examinations of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. It is owned and operated by Masters Finance Academy.
For the purposes of data protection law, Masters Finance Academy is the “controller” of the personal information described in this policy. This means we decide why and how your personal information is processed and we are responsible for it.
Wolfyn is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by ACCA. We do not receive personal information about you from ACCA, and we do not share personal information with ACCA.
This policy applies to personal information we process when you:
This policy does not apply to websites, apps or services operated by other organisations, even where the Service links to them or relies on them (for example, Google when you choose to sign in with Google). Those organisations have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to read them.
We collect information that you give us directly, information that is generated as you use the Service, and a limited amount of technical information that is collected automatically. The categories are described below.
When you create an account with an email address and password, we collect your full name, your email address and your password. Your password is stored in a secure form and we cannot see it.
If you choose to create an account or sign in using Google, Google shares with us your name, your email address, whether that email address has been verified, your profile picture (where available) and a unique account identifier. We do not receive your Google password, and we do not request access to your Gmail, contacts, calendar, files or any other Google data. What Google shares is governed by your Google account settings and by Google’s own privacy policy.
When you first join, we ask a short set of questions so that we can tailor the Service to you. Depending on your answers, this information may include:
You do not have to give us any exam results beyond the score band described above, and we do not ask for your ACCA registration number.
As you use the Service, we record information about your study activity, including:
We use this information to show you your progress, build your Mistakes list, resume unfinished work and recommend what to practise next.
Some questions, including Section B of a mock exam, ask you to type a written or numerical answer. When you submit those answers, we store them together with the marks and feedback produced when they are marked, so that you can review them later.
When you use the AI tutor, the messages you type are processed, together with the question you are working on, to generate a reply. We do not currently keep a permanent copy of your tutor conversations in your account. Please see section 6 for more detail on AI features.
If you report a problem with a question, we collect the question concerned, the reason you selected, any message you write, and your name and email address so that we know who sent the report and can follow up if needed. If you email us, we collect your email address and anything you choose to include in your message.
Like almost every website, we and our service providers automatically process certain technical information when you use the Service, such as your IP address, browser and device type, and the date and time of your visits and sign-ins. We use this to keep you signed in, deliver the website and protect the Service from abuse.
Some preferences and notes, such as your display settings and scratchpad notes, are stored only in your own browser and are not sent to us. See section 7 for more detail.
We do not knowingly collect special category data (such as information about health, religion, ethnicity, political opinions or sexual orientation), and we ask that you do not include such information in tutor messages, written answers or reports. We do not collect payment card details. We do not use the Service to track you across other websites.
We use personal information for the following purposes:
We will not use your personal information for a purpose that is incompatible with the purposes above without first telling you and, where required, obtaining your consent.
Where data protection laws such as the UK General Data Protection Regulation or the EU General Data Protection Regulation apply, we rely on the following legal bases:
The Service includes features powered by large language models (“AI”), namely the AI tutor and the marking of written answers. To provide these features, the relevant study content, such as the question, your answer and your tutor messages, is processed by trusted third-party AI service providers.
We do not include your name or email address in the content processed by AI features. However, anything you type into a tutor message or written answer is processed as you wrote it, so please do not include personal information that you do not want processed in this way.
AI marking produces a mark and feedback that you can review. These marks are an aid to your study only. They have no legal or similarly significant effect on you, they do not affect any real examination, and they are not used to make any decision about you. We do not carry out automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects within the meaning of data protection law.
AI output can be inaccurate or incomplete. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information about the limits of AI features.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. Similar technologies, such as local storage, let a website keep information in your browser. We use only a small number of these, and only for the following purposes:
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not use cookies to track you across other websites.
You can block or delete cookies and clear stored data through your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, you will not be able to sign in, and if you clear stored data, your device-only preferences and notes will be lost.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only in the limited circumstances described below.
We use carefully selected service providers who process personal information on our behalf and only on our instructions. They include:
We require our service providers to protect personal information appropriately and to use it only to provide services to us.
A small number of people authorised by Masters Finance Academy can access an administration area of the Service to manage accounts, review reports and correct questions. They access personal information only where necessary for those tasks and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
We may disclose personal information where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with the law, a court order or a lawful request from a public authority; to enforce our Terms and Conditions; to detect, prevent or address fraud, security or technical issues; or to protect the rights, property or safety of Masters Finance Academy, our users or the public.
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganisation or sale of all or part of our business or assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will take steps to ensure that it continues to be protected in line with this policy and will tell you before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We may share personal information for any other purpose with your consent or at your direction.
We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you, for example general statistics about how many questions are answered in each syllabus area.
Our service providers operate globally, so your personal information may be processed in countries other than the one in which you live, including the United States. The data protection laws in those countries may differ from those in your country.
Where we transfer personal information out of the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, we make sure an appropriate safeguard is in place, such as an adequacy decision, the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or another lawful mechanism. You can contact us for more information about the safeguards we use.
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, including to meet legal, accounting or reporting requirements. In general:
We may keep information for longer where we are required to by law or where it is needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Residual copies may remain in backups for a limited period before they are overwritten. Aggregated or de-identified information may be kept indefinitely.
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against accidental or unlawful loss, misuse, alteration, disclosure or access. These include:
No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You can help by choosing a strong, unique password, keeping it confidential and signing out on shared devices. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at support@wolfyn.com.
If a personal data breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority and, where required, you, in accordance with applicable law.
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights in relation to your personal information:
If you live in California or another jurisdiction with similar laws, you may also have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and why, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are defined under California law.
These rights are subject to certain conditions and exceptions under applicable law.
To exercise any of your rights, email us at support@wolfyn.com from the email address linked to your account, and tell us which right you wish to exercise. We may need to ask for further information to confirm your identity before we act on your request; this helps protect your information from being disclosed to someone else.
We will respond within one month of receiving your request. If your request is particularly complex, or you have made several requests, we may extend this period by up to two further months, and we will tell you if we do. We will not normally charge a fee, but we may charge a reasonable fee or refuse to act if a request is clearly unfounded, repetitive or excessive.
You can also stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account and the personal information associated with it, contact us at support@wolfyn.com.
The Service is designed for students preparing for professional accountancy examinations and is not directed at children. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@wolfyn.com and we will take steps to delete it.
The Service may contain links to, or rely on, websites and services operated by third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties. When you leave the Service or use a third-party service, such as signing in with Google, we encourage you to read the privacy policy of that third party.
We may contact you with messages that relate directly to your account or the Service, for example to respond to an enquiry, to tell you about a security issue, or to notify you of important changes to our policies. These messages are part of providing the Service and are not marketing.
We will only send you marketing communications where you have agreed to receive them or where the law otherwise allows. Every marketing message will include a simple way to unsubscribe.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the Service, to our practices or to the law. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to let you know, for example by displaying a notice in the Service or by contacting you, before the changes take effect. We encourage you to review this policy regularly.
If you have any questions, concerns or complaints about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your personal information, please contact us at support@wolfyn.com.
We would appreciate the chance to deal with your concerns before you approach a supervisory authority, so please contact us in the first instance. You nevertheless have the right to complain to a supervisory authority at any time.
